any people are taught in Sunday school,
that God created the world in six days, and rested on the seventh to
illustrate the work week. Why would God take six days to create the
world when He could have created it in one second, in a blink of an eye?
But did not! In studying the word “day” and “days” in the Bible, we find
some very interesting passages that relate to this. We conclude that
perhaps God was indicating to us how much time man would have on this
earth. God must punish sin, and He is going to avenge His Word.
The Bible, especially in the Old
Testament is full of foreshadowing’s, an event that actually happened in
history that also pictures something coming that will happen in the
future, an example of this is when Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac,
Genesis 22:9-13. That event actually happened in history but it
would also give us a picture of what God would do with His Son Jesus on
the cross as an offering for the sins of the world. Now, why would God
take six days to create the world? It’s an interesting question. Is
this a picture of something we need to know? I think it is!
In 2 Peter 3:8 and the context is
referring to the Second Coming of Christ, the Bible says;
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one
thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a
thousand years as one day.
In Psalms 90:4 the Bible says;
For a thousand years in thy
sight [are but] as yesterday when it is past, and [as] a watch in the
night.
Could this be that the six days of
creation would indicate to us the time that man would have on this earth
would be about six thousand years, with the seventh day of rest
picturing the thousand year Millennial reign when Christ comes back to
set-up His earthly Kingdom, a time of righteousness and peace?
Some Bible scholars have calculated from
the first man Adam, to the first coming of Jesus Christ to be about four
thousand years. If that’s the case, then we could be living right at
the end of what the Bible calls the Last Days. Isaiah 2:2, Acts 2:17, 2Peter 3:3
How God deals with Time in the Bible
When God measures time in the Bible, He
does so by 7’s
Ø
God created the world in
Seven days, with the 7th day being the day of rest,
Genesis 2:2
Ø
According to the Old
Testament Law, the Jews were commanded to rest every 7th day.
Exodus 31:14-17
Ø
On the 7th week
after the Passover they celebrated a big feast and rest.
Ø
The 7th month
was perhaps their most important when they celebrated 3 of their biggest
feast’s and rest. Leviticus 23:41
Ø
Every 7th year
was a year of rest for the land. Leviticus 25:4
Ø
Every 49 years, which is
7x7 they celebrated the year of Jubilee which is a year of rest for the
land, and liberty for the people. Leviticus 25:8
Ø
Every 7th year
was a year of release. A cancellation of debts owed to another Jew.
Deuteronomy 15:1, 31:10
So you see, it makes since that God would
set-up this seven thousand year period for man to occupy this earth,
with the last thousand years being a time of rest when Jesus comes back
to set-up His earthly Kingdom, as spoken of in Revelation chapter 20.
When God deals with time in the Bible, there’s no other predominant
system than the use of 7’s.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the
most important day on God’s calendar, and we should be convinced that
God wants us to know about it, including the timing. If we were to look
at the Old Testament Prophet Hosea, we see in Hosea 6 he’s talking about
Israel, God’s chosen nation who has always rejecting God. The nation was
going to be torn apart but verse 2 says: After two days will he
revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in
his sight.
You see when Jesus came; Israel rejected
Him as their Messiah, so God scattered the nation of Israel all over the
world. For 1,900 years there is no nation of Israel but God says that
after 2 days or 2,000 years I will revive thee, and you Israel will live
in my sight. We can see this happening already, for the scattered nation
of Israel is being re-gathered right in front of our eyes. On May 14th
1948 Israel became a nation again; at the present, Israel spends
millions of dollars on migration (bringing the Jews back to their home
land), this is very important because God is reviving the nation of
Israel and they’re about to live in His sight because Jesus is coming
back soon to set-up His earthly Kingdom.
Now, let’s look at who God has preserved
as a people. Canaanites and Ammonites were Israel’s enemies and they
have not been preserved but the Jews have been because they are God’s
chosen people because He must fulfill the Kingdom promises He has made
to them. But the some of the Jews are still rejecting Christ, and for
how long will they reject Him? After two days or 2,000 years I will
revive thee, and the third day you
Israel will live in my sight. We see the
same foreshadowing in Exodus 19:11where God told Israel to get clean and
wait for two days because on the third day I’m coming down in the
sight of all the nation. In John 11, Lazarus the Jew has died and Jesus
waits two days before raising him from the dead. This pictures how God is about to turn His back on Israel for the next
2 thousand years or two days, and start reaching out to the rest
of the world through the New Testament Church-which He did. God doesn’t
just throw these things in the Bible just to waste space, He is trying
to tell us something.
In Matthew 17:1, Jesus takes
Peter, James, and John up to the mountain apart from the group, and what
happens is, Jesus is transfigured before them and are given a preview of
His Second Coming Glory. Now I left out the first four words of that
first verse of scripture that says that after six days Jesus taketh
Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high
mountain apart, (from the group). You may ask, why does God tell us
this? Is He just wasting space as some would say, or perhaps is He
trying to tell us something again that we need to know? Remember the
time from Adam, to Christ is 4,000 years, or 4 days, the time of the
Church period is 2,000 years, or 2 days, so could this mean that
sometime after 6 days, or 6,000 years God would revive Israel and
fulfill the promises He made to them? Soon, and very soon there’s going
to be a time of judgment on this earth like never before, just prior to
the return of Christ that the Bible calls “The Great Tribulation”,
Matthew 24:21, and guess what this is? The 7 year period!
God is really trying to tell us
something. God judged the world once already in the days of Noah. In
Genesis chapter 6 He tells us that there was a great population
explosion and the earth was corrupt and filled with violence, sounds
like today doesn’t it? He wiped out the whole population with the
flood and only 8 people survived. God judged the cities Sodom
and Gomorrah because all of the ramped sexual sin, homosexualality, and
perversion, sounds like today doesn’t it? He wiped out those
cities and only 3 people survived, and in both cases the
unbelievers were taken totally by surprise but the believers
weren’t because they knew judgment was coming.
Conclusion
If the Bible is true, and it is! And God
is trying to tell us something other than how to live our lives, and how
to have Salvation through His Son Jesus Christ, then, our time is just
about up, because this current existence, as we know it doesn’t go on
like it is now forever, and sometime very soon Israel will turn
to Jesus as their Messiah, and Christ will come-back to earth to begin
His reign. You see, the end of the world happens everyday for some
people because they die, and if a person doesn’t have a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ they will spend a CONSCIENCE
eternity in the Lake of Fire away from the presence of God, which makes
this a very serious issue. We know there are a lot of names for
religions in the world, but they all fall under the same category, every
religion except for Biblical Christianity teaches that you can be
saved by your own merit, like “being good”, or doing certain “rituals.”
But the Bible says no one can be right in God’s eyes by doing “Good
Work”, Romans 3:20, and that all have sinned and fell short of the Glory
of God, Romans 3:23. We must realize that the Biblical standard of
getting into Heaven is to be perfect, totally sinless or righteous as
the Bible calls it, and you may be saying, “If that’s true then, no one
will be getting into Heaven because no one is perfect.” And you would be
correct!
That’s why we all need Jesus Christ. You
see, when Jesus was on this earth He lived a totally perfect life
because He was God, and he died for us on the cross to pay the penalty
for our sins, and rose from the dead, and God allowed Christ back into
Heaven. This was not because He was a “Good Guy”, but it was because
He, and He alone met the requirements of being perfect. You see Jesus
is Righteous, and only the righteous will inherit Heaven, and if God
didn’t lower His standard for His own Son, what makes us think that He
will for us?
Millions of people say they want to go to
Heaven and not to Hell when they die, but they think it takes them to
just to live a “Good Life”, and they’re in for a BIG shock! Because
it’s not enough! They’re not hitting the mark. God has a standard of
absolute perfection, and because only Jesus is perfect, and it’s only
when we personally commit, and receive Him as our Lord and believe what
He did for us on the cross, cleanses us from all of our sins. That’s
why He deserves all the credit, and that’s why we all need Jesus
Christ. Jesus Christ wants to give us all eternal life and real purpose
for living today, but it’s up to you to receive, believe and turn to Him
as Lord and Savior. It’s your choice! Just remember if you choose not
to follow Him, you can’t say when you lift up your eyes in Hell, “No
one told me!”
Jesus is coming back. Perhaps, He may
come today. Are you ready? If not, you can be. Without another second's
delay, pray this prayer: "Lord Jesus, I admit that I'm a sinner. I
believe the Bible and what it says about You. Realizing that You gave
Your life for me, that you died for my sins and arose from the dead, I
am trusting in You and You alone for my salvation. Come into my heart. I
pray this in your precious Name Jesus, Amen."
That is the first and most important step
in getting ready for His return and getting into Heaven!
If you prayed the prayer above, and
believe it in your heart, you have been Saved!!! Now start living your
life for Christ, read the Holy Bible, and learn from the Lord how to
live a life of service for Him. God Bless You!
